Final reflections: From this summer, I figured a lot of things out about why art is research– something I’d known to be true but not really figured out for myself why it was true. Through both validating dance practice in the digital world as a newly expanding field, and experimenting with visual art/drawing as feedback to other art and as research unto itself, I feel like I established for myself why I do what I do and why it is important in the world of academia.

I loved working with Celeste in the areas across and in between visual art and dance, often with the digital world being the mediator between these areas. I think working from new intersections of fields enlivens and creates new possibilities in areas that were perhaps already familiar in some ways.

My biggest takeaways were my ability to self direct and follow my own artistic impulses in terms of zine making, creative response, and drawing. The time and space this project had allowed things to emerge that I did not plan or predict. I think I also left this project with a newfound fascination and appreciation for aspects of the digital realm– I feel competent in many more digital fields, especially as they relate to presentation and facilitation of dance and visual arts practices.
